■ Social problems caused by false and misinformation such as deep fakes In recent years, with the advent of highly accurate generation AI such as the interactive generation AI “ChatGPT” and the image generation AI “Stable Diffusion,” anyone can easily create content such as fake images and videos using deepfake technology that utilizes these technologies. Nowadays, information such as fake news videos, fake disaster images, fraudulent websites, etc. whose authenticity cannot be determined easily by the human eye is rapidly increasing on SNS. Particularly in times of emergency such as disasters, as exemplified by the false information posted on SNS following the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January of this year, accurate and quick information is required. It’s not easy to see through it. Given this situation, there is a need to establish technology that can
comprehensively deal with false and misinformation. ■ Why Data Grid is working against deep fakes Data Grid is an AI startup from Kyoto University that has been engaged in research and development specializing in generative AI since its founding in 2017, and has been engaged in research and development of video and image generation AI even before generative AI became widespread. Ta. By developing a unique large-scale dataset and improving algorithms, we were the first in the world to successfully generate high-quality Japanese facial images in 2018, and in 2019 to generate full-body digital human images. , and has been featured in major overseas media such as Forbes. Datagrid has been engaged in research and development of generative AI and business utilizing them for many years, and we have felt a sense of crisis regarding the rise of deep fakes due to the recent accelerated evolution of generative AI. To this end, this project will collaborate with Professor Isao Echizen and Professor Junichi Yamagishi of the National Institute of Informatics, who are leading experts in the field of deep fake detection, and Yusuke Yasuda, a specially appointed lecturer at Nagoya University, to develop and detect deep fakes. We will work on developing technology to counter the latest deep fakes from both sides.
