Photographer and writer Naoki Ishikawa climbed Shishapangma, an 8,000m peak in the Himalayas, on October 4, 2014, achieving the remarkable feat of conquering all 14 of the world’s 8,000m peaks. In 2025, Shinchosha will publish a reportage on the climb to the 14th mountain, “The Last Mountain.”

In October 2013, two American female climbers and two Sherpas were killed in an avalanche near the summit of Shishapangma, the 14th mountain in the Himalayas. At the time, Mr. Ishikawa was also aiming for the summit, but he gave up near the summit due to an avalanche. I achieved my long-cherished wish for the first time in a year. In 25 years, I have written about my expeditions in the Himalayas over the past few years up to my successful ascent of Shishapangma, my last mountain.
