Tsukioka Onsen The Shibata City Tourism Association (hereinafter referred to as the “Association”) and the Development Bank of Japan, Inc. jointly collaborated on a project titled “Big Data Analysis of Tsukioka Onsen – Trend Analysis of Japanese Tourists Visiting Tsukioka Onsen.” We have published an investigation and recommendation report. Tsukioka Onsen, located in Shibata City, Niigata Prefecture, became popular as a hot spring inn during the Taisho era when hot springs gushed out during oil drilling, and later became one of the
prefecture’s most popular hot spring resorts, known as Niigata’s Okuzashiki during the period of high economic growth. It is a tourist destination and hot spring area. In recent years, efforts have been made to develop the town as a “hot spring town that makes you want to walk”, such as the establishment of the town development company “Mirise”, in order to improve the appeal of the town as a “hot spring town” rather than just an inn. This approach has also been successful and has yielded certain results. On the other hand, there are also issues such as recovery from the coronavirus pandemic and increasing consumption, and this study will utilize big data based on mobile location information to improve the results of Tsukioka, which was difficult to obtain with existing surveys. We analyzed the attributes and behavioral data of visitors to hot springs, as well as their excursions to surrounding tourist spots. Based on these results, our association will continue to investigate and analyze the trends of tourists in Shibata City, and hope to increase the benefit effects by increasing the amount of tourism consumption through sightseeing excursions. Please also refer to this report, which is posted on the association’s website. ・ For more information, please check the following (Shibata City Tourism Association website)
