In recent years, we have also focused on product development based on the seasonal calendar, and from 2019 we released traditional doll decorations that utilize Kimekomi and Nara Ittobori techniques. It has gained a lot of support due to its small size, design that blends in with interior decoration, and manufacturing techniques that utilize craftsmanship. This year, we are collaborating with Atelier Shimura, a brand that has inherited the artistic spirit of Living National Treasure and dyer Fukumi Shimura over three generations, to create special dolls dressed in costumes dyed with plants. A decoration was born. The concept is “Hina dolls in costumes that connect feelings from parents to children.” The beauty of vegetable dyeing, which reflects the vitality of plants, and the feelings that have been passed down from Mr. Fukumi Shimura to his children and then to his grandchildren, have been incorporated into the decorations for celebrating the First Festival. In the plant dyeing process at Atelier Shimura, the roots, branches, and leaves of 15 types of plants, including madder, cherry blossoms, purple roots, Karasuno soybeans, and safflower, are collected, and the threads are dyed by hand, all of which are hand-woven. The Hina dolls made from this material are made by Houu Tsuda Dolls, a company in Kawagoe, Saitama Prefecture that has been making hina dolls for three generations. It was made into a doll-sized kimono and carefully dressed. In addition, for the “Osei Doll”, which makes the doll’s head, the facial expressions are drawn with a brush instead of the usual glass eyes, creating a gentle expression that goes well with vegetable dyeing. The process is to collect plants and plants that can be used as dyes in the field, and then dye the thread produced by silkworms over and over again. Because the same conditions such as the time of year when the plants are harvested, the temperature of the boiling water, the number of layers of dyeing, and the individuality of the dyer are never the same, the exact same color will never appear twice, making it a colored thread that gives you a sense of the rarity and richness of nature. . In the weaving process, glossy silk threads are used for the warp threads, and pongee threads with a soft texture are used for the weft threads, using a plain weaving technique that intersects each thread, and is entirely hand-woven. Please note that the delicate vegetable dyeing will change its color over time. As a doll decoration that grows into a unique color over time, we hope that it will be displayed for a long time as your child grows.
