I participated in the previous Asian Championships two years ago, but missed out on the podium, finishing 4th in bouldering and 5th in leading. Recently, the problem has been that the percentage of players who advance to the finals of the World Cup has been decreasing, so I am very happy to be able to get on the podium.  I will utilize my experience at this Asian Championships to further train for next year’s World Championships. In order to overcome our weaknesses, we will work with an awareness of the challenges, especially regarding the lead, with the Olympics in mind.    Lead 2nd place (individual 5th place) Ryoei Nukii (Nara Prefecture Representative)  Comment  This is my first time participating in a national sports event in two years. Last time I didn’t get the results I wanted, so this time I was determined to win at all costs. Also, I have been practicing exclusively on boulders for the past year, so I had a goal to turn that into results. Although I wasn’t 100% satisfied with both the preliminaries and finals in Boulder, I was able to finish in 5th place, and I felt that my training over the past year had not been wrong. In the lead race, I felt like I wasn’t practicing enough because I was focusing on boulders, but because my partner is a lead specialist, I managed to get on the podium in 3rd place. For next year’s tournaments, I would like to further improve my skills in both events and aim for victory. Mai Kobayashi (Mie Prefecture Representative/2024 Lead World Cup Japan Representative)
Comments  Both Boulder and Reed entered this tournament with the goal of advancing to the finals and getting on the podium. As a result, Boulder was unable to achieve its goal as it finished in 14th place, but it was able to improve its ranking from last year by finishing in 4th place in the lead. Also, this year was a year where I focused on leading, so I felt that my daily practice paid off as I was able to complete the ascent in the preliminaries and climb to the highest altitude in the final to take first place individually. . Next year, only one prefecture will be able to participate in the national sports event after the local qualifying round, so we will first make it through the local qualifying round and compete in the national sports tournament again, and next year we will be on the podium in both events. Honoka Oda (Osaka Prefecture Representative)  Comment  I participated in national sports as a
representative of Osaka Prefecture and placed in the top 5. In the lead race, I tried my best to win, but I ended up in second place, a disappointing result. This is my third time participating in a national sports event, but my first time competing in the adult women’s division, and the wide range of age groups was exciting. We will use this frustration as a springboard to practice hard every day, aiming to win next time. What is Setsunan University Sports Climbing Club?

With a view to playing a role in strengthening the sport, we established a sports climbing club. With Jiro Nakagai, who has participated in the World Cup in the lead division and is currently the coach of the Japanese national team, as the head coach, the team is aiming high and challenging the walls.  At the end of February 2024, a climbing wall (lead) with a height of 12.5m and a total width of 9.5m will be completed on the Neyagawa campus. We look forward to the club’s success in the future, along with an improved training environment.
