Thank you. The Ishiyaki Festival was a great success with approximately 1,400 visitors, 22 participants on the experience tour, and 730 visitors to the Nyudosaki Lighthouse. On the same day, we also carried out a live broadcast to the venue of the “Sea and Lighthouse Summit 2024” held in Tokyo, delivering the excitement at the festival venue. As part of the Nippon Foundation’s “Ocean and Japan Project,” this event will dig up local ocean memories centered on lighthouses, connect regions to regions, different fields to different industries, Japan and the world, and create new ocean experiences. Event overview ・Event name: Nyudosaki Lighthouse Stone Baking Festival & Experience Tour ・Event Overview: In honor of Oga City’s local cuisine, “Ishiyaki Cuisine,” we will be holding an “Ishiyaki Festival,” which will feature dishes related to “Ishiyaki.” At the same time, we also conducted experiential tours based on the verification at the “Expert Review Meeting” held in August and the “Workshop” held in September. ・Date: November 3, 2024 (Sunday) 11:00-15:00 (Nyudosaki Lighthouse Free Opening 10:00-16:00) ・Venue: Nyuudozaki Konbuura Nyuudozaki, Oga City, Akita Prefecture (around the lighthouse parking lot) ・Number of participants: Approximately 1,400 people visited the Ishiyaki Festival, 22 people participated in the experience tour, and 730 people visited the Nyudosaki Lighthouse First stone baking festival held! The local cuisine of Oga City, Akita Prefecture, “Ishiyaki Ryori” uses “welded tuff”, a geological rock from the area where Nyudosaki Lighthouse stands, and is heated to around 800 degrees before being cooked in a tub of hot water. This is a dish to go to. There is evidence that stone-grilled dishes have been eaten since the Meiji period, and they have become a regional specialty. The “Ishiyaki Festival” was held at the Nyudosaki Lighthouse parking lot, with the stone grilled dishes as the main dish, and other dishes related to stone grilling such as “Ishiyaki Bibimbap”, “Ishiyaki Potato”, and “Ishiyaki Fruit Dessert”. It was held for the first time. There were concerns about the weather due to the typhoon, but everyone involved was able to get through their thoughts and the sun peeked out in the morning, making it a perfect day for the event. The festival started at 11 a.m., but Nyudosaki Lighthouse was open to the public for free at 10 a.m., so many people came from the morning and it was lively. From 12:00, “Namahage Taiko” appeared and the venue heated up at once. Namahage surprised the guests, and the venue was the most lively of the day with the cheers of the guests and the sound of drums. Each of the stone-yaki foods sold out quickly due to more customers than expected, which
disappointed the customers who came around noon. The number of visitors to the Saki Lighthouse was 730, the highest this year, and the event demonstrated the future potential of the “Ishiyaki Festival,” which is the goal of this year’s “creation of a new tourism program.”

In this tour, a guide from the Oga Peninsula/Ogata Guide Association will explain the history of Nyudosaki Lighthouse and observe the strata of “welded tuff” used in stone-grilled dishes based on the content confirmed at the workshop held in September. We guided tour participants around the Nyudosaki Lighthouse as one of the sightseeing courses, including touching the rocks. At the end, we finished the approximately 90-minute tour by enjoying stone-grilled dishes. Participants said, “I’m glad I learned about lighthouses and stones,” “I was able to climb the lighthouse and the scenery was beautiful,” and “I felt satisfied because I heard so many stories about the geology and lighthouses.” I received it. There were also comments that it would be nice to have night tours where you can actually see the lights of the lighthouse, and tours where you can see the lenses up close.
