“See, meet, and experience the first Deaflympics in Shibuya” Let’s learn about the world of “deaf sports” together for children and adults ★ There are plenty of permanent exhibitions, video screenings, experience corners, stage events, and more! In 2025, the Deaflympics, a world championship for deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes, will be held for the first time in Tokyo. The “Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics” is a commemorative 100th anniversary event, and will be held for the first time in Japan. In Shibuya Ward, an event will be held one year in advance of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics at Space 428 on the 15th floor of the Shibuya Ward Office main building, titled “See, Meet, and Experience the First Deaflympics in Shibuya!” A permanent exhibition will be held from November 16th (Sat) to December 9th (Mon). There is plenty of content, including an original chronology exhibit that tells you about the 100-year history of the Deaflympics, interviews with Deaf athletes, a corner introducing Deaf sports, and exhibits of items such as athletes’ uniforms, medals, and rackets! In addition, stage events will be held on Saturday, November 16th and Saturday, December 7th during the exhibition period! There are also experiential events for elementary and junior high school students. Pre-registration is required for each event, and applications are now being accepted via the web form.
11/16 (Sat): A day where Japan’s leading table tennis players gather! Let’s experience def table tennis with athletes! On November 16th (Saturday) during the permanent exhibition period, a two-part event will be held: “Let’s experience def table tennis!” and “Tokyo 2020 → 2025! Table Tennis Special Talk Rally.” Japan’s leading table tennis players will gather to hold a differential table tennis experience for elementary and junior high school students and a talk event for the general public.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium is a venue that carries on the legacy of being the venue for table tennis competitions at the Tokyo 2020 Games. In this event, Deaf table tennis medalists and Olympic and Paralympic athletes will introduce the appeal of table tennis from their respective fields. In the trial program, you can actually hold a racket, wear earplugs and earmuffs, and try out differential table tennis on a table tennis table. Additionally, participants and viewers will be loaned a new user interface called Ontenna developed by Fujitsu Limited. By wearing it on your hair, earlobe, collar, sleeve, etc., you can physically experience the characteristics of sound through vibration and light.
