A student team from Katsumasa Tanaka Seminar of the Faculty of Business Administration participated in the “4th Toridoll Sustainable Business Contest” held on Thursday, November 7th, and won the grand prize (first place). Following the 2nd competition (2022) and 3rd competition (2023), the student team that participated from the same seminar achieved their third consecutive victory. The “Toridoll Sustainable Business Contest” is a contest sponsored by Toridoll Holdings, which operates brands such as Marugame Seimen and Konaz Coffee globally. In this 4th competition, 40 teams from 14
universities participated in the preliminary rounds, and two teams from the seminar passed the preliminary screening and were selected as finalists. We made a proposal to the company’s management. We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to many companies and government agencies for their support and cooperation in making the students’ proposals. The content and comments of each team’s presentation are as follows. ■Title “Maru chopsticks” (Leader: Rinne Kobayashi) ■Contents and comments The Noto Peninsula earthquake struck on New Year’s Day, a turning point in the new year. In September, heavy rains hit Oku-Noto, and recovery has not progressed sufficiently. In participating in the “4th Toridoll Sustainable Business Contest,” our team hopes to contribute to local communities and the environment while creating a sustainable society by leveraging the corporate strength of Toridoll, which has stores nationwide. Through this, we wanted to bring a positive impact to the
disaster-stricken areas. Therefore, we proposed a product called “Marubashi”, thinking that we could contribute to the relief efforts by collaborating with Marugame Seimen by utilizing Noto wood and Wajima lacquering techniques. With this proposal, we will contribute to bringing some cheer to those affected by the disaster. ■Title “TORIFES” (Leader: Masaki Taisho) ■Contents and comments The reason we participated in the 4th Toridoll Sustainable Business Contest was because we thought it would be an opportunity for us to gain valuable social experience during our student days by giving a presentation directly to your company’s management team. In addition, based on Toridoll’s ESG materiality and the SDGs’ philosophy of “leaving no one behind,” I strongly felt that I would like to solve Japan’s social issue of “child poverty” by supporting children’s cafeterias. To achieve this, we have proposed “TORIDOLL CHARITY MUSIC FES (TORIFES) – Let’s save children from poverty through the excitement of food and music.” With this proposal, we aim to deliver hope to the children who will carry the future, and help build a sustainable global society. In addition, following 2022, Tokyo Ada was awarded as a supplementary prize to the “Best Award” won by the team that participated in the seminar at the “3rd Toridoll Sustainable Business Contest” held in 2023. A kitchen truck from the Toridoll Group will be on display at the 4th Hua Festival (FY2024) to be held at Chi Campus, and 200 meals of Marugame Seimen’s udon will be provided free of charge from 12:00 on Saturday, November 9th. . In addition, at the next 5th Hua Festival (2025) in 2025, a kitchen car from the Torridor Group will be exhibited as a supplementary prize for winning the “Grand Prize” of this year (4th Toridoll Sustainable Business Contest).
