Press release: November 15, 2024 Kaneka holds “special class to learn about dairy farming” for the first time -At Shohei Elementary School, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo- Kaneka Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Kazuhiko Fujii) sells “Pure Nature Organic” through its group company Kaneka Foods Co., Ltd.
(Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, President: Futoshi Fukusaki). As part of the promotion, on Tuesday, September 10th, we held a special class called “Earth-Friendly and Sustainable Dairy Farming Experience Tour” for third graders and their parents at Shohei Elementary School in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. [Event report] Shohei Elementary School is a “physical education and health education promotion school” by the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education. In order to develop the qualities and abilities to design a healthy and energetic life through various connections with exercise and sports, we conduct practical research on effective physical education and health education and work to disseminate its effects. I’m here. This time, as part of children’s health and dietary education, we held a special class on the theme of earth-friendly and sustainable dairy farming (organic recycling dairy farming) that the Kaneka Group is working on. New curriculum guidelines have been introduced for elementary schools since 2020, and they clearly state “developing creators of a sustainable society.” There is a need to provide educational opportunities related to the SDGs throughout school education, including each subject,
comprehensive study time, and special activities. Therefore, in this class, in order to think about “What are the SDGs?” and “What can we do?”, we will introduce organic foods sold in supermarkets and the Organic JAS certification mark. We learned about it.

The venue was designed to help children learn about organic dairy farming and become familiar with it, such as displaying life-sized cow panels and compost made from cow dung. The children also took on the challenge of a sticker rally to learn about the cycle of organic dairy farming, providing an opportunity to experience and learn that “choosing organic food leads to achieving the SDGs.”

I think that by experiencing a simulated farm experience and then eating yogurt made with organic raw milk, the children felt a connection with dairy farmers. Comments such as “It’s delicious” and “Where can I buy it?” were all over the place. We will continue our activities to help people feel closer to the SDGs and to get them interested in organic food.
