(Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Masamine Ryuho; hereinafter “TBS”), it has designed and implemented “AI Report,” an automated reporting solution that utilizes generative AI, contributing to improved efficiency and report quality in TBS’s regular report creation operations. This project was carried out jointly with MBK Digital, who requested the development of a scheme to demonstrate the use of generative AI to improve business operations. Using TBS-DMP, which accumulates TBS’s streaming big data, this project aimed to establish a business use case for generative AI by combining MBK Digital’s knowledge of generative AI with TBS’s industry perspective and feedback from operational sites. MBK Digital was responsible for designing the AI reports based on various BigQuery data and queries provided by TBS. Furthermore, MBK Digital received feedback from TBS regarding perspectives necessary for practical operation, such as “If employees are to submit reports, this information should be taken into account,” and reflected this in the prompt design, thereby creating a highly accurate automated reporting system tailored to practical use. ■AI solution that reduces the burden of regular reports TBS prepares regular reports every Monday morning for use in management meetings and other events, but the workload was a challenge, especially during busy times like the start of the week. The “AI Report” recently implemented by MBK Digital and TBS utilizes BigQuery and Gemini to not simply compile numerical data, but automatically generate analytical comments based on past trends and background information that are “ready for use in management decision-making.” This reduces the workload of staff while standardizing report content and ensuring quality. ■Transform routine tasks with AI designed to “read” like a human “AI Report” goes beyond simple data extraction and formatting. It aggregates and utilizes a variety of data using BigQuery, and uses Gemini to output comparisons and summaries based on contextual information such as viewing trends and comparisons with past performance. What makes it innovative and practical is that it automatically generates so-called “witty comments,” a task previously performed by experienced employees. This initiative has attracted attention within TBS, where it is recognized as an advanced example of business digital transformation, thanks to AI’s ability to handle the process of “reading context,” which was difficult with traditional BI tools. ■Comment from Shozo Matsumoto, Senior Analyst, MBK Digital/Data Analytics Division General BI tools can output numerical values, but they cannot evaluate based on the “criteria” used by humans. This time, we developed a conceptual design from the perspective of how can we use AI to reproduce decisions that only employees could make? This initiative was particularly worthwhile for a workplace like TBS, where precision and quality are essential. MBK Digital will continue to develop AI reports for industries with a heavy reporting burden due to routine tasks, such as the television industry. By automating interpretation and analytical commentary, which is not possible with existing BI tools, we help companies achieve both quality and speed in their operations, and support their digital transformation efforts.
