Electrician!” Solar Car Crafting Event for Elementary School Students Held in Koto and Nerima Wards JKK Tokyo (Tokyo Metropolitan Housing Supply Corporation: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Chairperson: Yoko Hama; hereinafter “JKK”) held an event at JKK Housing* properties, Tomin Tower Shinonome in Koto Ward and Kosha Heim Hikarigaoka Daiyon in Nerima Ward, on Friday, August 8th and Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, to support summer vacation independent research projects for elementary school students residing in JKK Housing and metropolitan housing, as well as local elementary school students. The event taught

Building a solar car with a serious expression ■ Event Report The participating elementary school students first learned about how solar power generation works. The lecturer was an electrician who actually installs solar power generation equipment in JKK housing and metropolitan housing. He avoided using technical jargon as much as possible and used quizzes and other methods to make the explanation easy to understand for elementary school students. After the lecture, the students finally got to work building a solar car out of plastic bottles. The participants excitedly opened the boxes of their craft kits and enjoyed working on the project. The participating elementary school students ranged in age from first to sixth grade, but all listened attentively to the instructor’s explanations and successfully completed their solar cars. After completing their crafts, the students used the lights to run their solar cars indoors. The smiling participants enthusiastically exclaimed, “Wow!” and “I want to run it more!”, providing a lively event for JKK staff. In addition, Tomin Tower Shinonome, with the cooperation of the Koto Ward Shinonome Library, held an exhibition of recycled books. Participating children happily took home books they could use for their summer homework.

Specific initiatives include installing solar power generation equipment on residential rooftops and promoting the introduction of EV/HV car sharing and bicycle sharing within residential properties. This event was held to support elementary school students’ summer vacation independent research projects.
