Use a smartphone guide app to tour four traditional houses scattered throughout the town. Over 900 works, ranging from the origins of yokai to modern-day yokai, were submitted to the “Yokai Sculpture Grand Prize” and are on display and in storage. “Bringing yokai to the world.” We want to make yokai (=yokai) a global word, similar to the Japanese word “mottainai” (wastefulness). The museum’s director is Tadahira Yagyu, a yokai painter born on Shodoshima.
