A concert where fourth through sixth graders from elementary and special needs schools in Yokohama City can experience live
performances by the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra and pipe organs together with their schoolmates. Sponsored by the Yokohama City Board of Education, this event aims to provide all children with the opportunity to experience the power of orchestral performances and the charm of classical music. This event has been held since the Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall first opened. This is a classical music introductory concert introducing famous pieces such as Strauss II’s “Thunder and Lightning” and Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” with commentary. We also sell some seats to local residents, so you can enjoy classical music with your children. 1. Providing a classical music concert experience for elementary school students in Yokohama City The “Heart Education Interaction Concert” is a unique Yokohama experience for elementary school students, where music brings people together. It has been held since the Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall opened in 1998, and this year marks its 28th anniversary (excluding the renovation period, this will be the 27th time the concert has been held at Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall). The program aims to hone children’s sensibilities through listening to orchestral performances and musical exchanges, as well as teach them proper etiquette when attending classical concerts. This year, a total of 20 performances were held over 10 days, targeting elementary and secondary schools in Yokohama City. Students 4-6 of special needs schools Approximately 30,000 elementary school students are expected to attend. The compact 60-minute program will incorporate music appreciation materials and other subjects previously outlined in the elementary school curriculum guidelines. Classical music that everyone has heard at least once, including pieces featured in books and pieces featuring the pipe organ. We will present a program featuring a selection of classic pieces from the past and present that can be enjoyed casually as an “introductory program.” In addition, tickets for a portion of the auditorium (third floor seats) will be available for sale to local residents, who can enjoy the concert with children. 2. A leading conductor and organist from the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra introduce classical masterpieces This performance will feature performances by leading conductors, orchestras, and organists The conductors will be Yuta Kobayashi, who has been performing in this production since 2022 and is currently the assistant conductor of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, and Tomoya Matsukawa and Daiki Kaminari, who will be making their debut this year. The orchestra is the Kanagawa Philharmonic, based in Yokohama, Japan. The Orchestra will be performing. The pipe organ will be performed by hall organist Takeru Kondo, who is currently
participating in the hall’s own training program for organists, the “Hall Organist Internship Program.” Maiko Ozaki and Asaka Nitta will perform. In addition, the concert will feature a familiar sight from the hall’s Children’s Day Concert. Rie Iwasaki will be the host and provide commentary on classical music. This is a rare performance where you can enjoy the magnificent sounds of an orchestra and the performance of the “Russian” pipe organ, the symbol of Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, accompanied by commentary.

It was incredibly powerful, and the performers on stage were dazzling. I was completely captivated. This concert features a repertoire that will be enjoyable even for those listening to a live orchestra for the first time. Please enjoy the live orchestral performance to the very end!
