https://prcdn.freetls.fastly.net/release_image/142065/303/142065-303-e3229c2658ec126519212caf40b51425-1924×2700.jpg Satoko Fukui has been studying at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava in the Slovak Republic since 2014, where she studied under the world-renowned printmaker Dusan Kárlái. Her color palette and sensibility have been highly praised, and her picture books “Little Fat Squirrel” and “The Night Guard’s Adventure” (JULA Publishing) won the “Slovak Most Beautiful Book Award – Student Award” and the “National Library Award.” Approximately 50 works will be on display, including original silkscreen artwork from the “Lipa’s Gardening” series (Nora Shoten), in which the gardener Lipa revives a dilapidated garden; drawings and sketches for the prints used in the series; traditional Slovak prints (woodblock prints, lithographs, copperplate prints, linocuts, and silkscreen prints) created during her time studying in Slovakia; paintings; and original illustrations from previously published picture books. Enjoy the world of Fukui’s work, which colorfully expresses the atmosphere of Slovakia in Eastern Europe and the joy of living in harmony with nature. Satoko Fukui (Profile) Picture book author and printmaker. Graduated from the Kyoto Saga University of Arts, Department of Design. Since 2014, she has studied printmaking and picture book illustration at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia, under printmaker Dusan Kárlái. Her books “Little Fat Squirrel” and “Domace dobrodružstvo” won the “Slovak Most Beautiful Book Award – Student Award” and the “National Library Award.” In June 2017, she graduated from the Graduate School of Printmaking at the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava. Her representative works include “Little Fat Squirrel” (JULA Publishing), “Lipa’s Gardening” series volumes 1-3 (Nora Shoten), and “Katy and the Unfinished House” (Poplar Publishing). She lives in Shiga Prefecture.
