Press Release: September 3, 2025 To Members of the Media Ka Baird Japan Tour 2025 MODE, a platform showcasing experimental music, audiovisual, and performing arts, will host the first Japan tour by New York-based artist Ka Baird, known for her vocal performance techniques, in September 2025.

microphones, electronics, flute, and other woodwind instruments. The four-date tour, which will run from September 6th to 20th, 2025, will visit Osaka, Hyogo, Tokyo, and Yamanashi. Ka Baird is a performer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who has gained international acclaim for her improvisational performance style. She began her career as a founding member of the Chicago-based psychedelic folk band Spires That in the Sunset Rise, and has since presented her work in various art spaces and festivals around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), MoMA PS1 (New York), The Kitchen (New York), and Unsound Festival (Krakow). In 2024, they will release their latest album, “Bearings: Soundtracks for the Bardos” (RVNG Intl.), which is themed around the “bardo” (the liminal state between death and rebirth), and Pitchfork has described it as “like a message from another world.” This tour will be held in partnership with Unsound, a globally influential festival and platform in the fields of electronic and experimental music from Poland, which will be held at multiple venues in Osaka from September 5th to 7th. He is known for his live performances, characterized by a psychoacoustic interplay between voice, microphone technique, electronics, and flute and other woodwind instruments. He creates a contemporary sound through ritualistic and powerful expression that explores physical energy and spiritual expansion. He has presented his work at a variety of venues, both nationally and internationally, including Unsound Festival (Krakow), Lampo (Chicago), MoMA PS1 (Queens), Issue Project Room (Brooklyn), The Kitchen (New York), Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia), TUSK Festival (Newcastle), KRAAK (Brussels), Le Guess Who? (Utrecht), Intonal Festival (Malmö), and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (Los Angeles).
