The “Fantastic Gala Concert,” which has been held annually at Kanagawa Prefectural Hall, will move to a new stage this year. Since 2006, the Fantastic Gala Concert has been a beloved annual end-of-year performance at Kanagawa Prefectural Hall. This performance, which has been hugely popular every year, will be held in a new location this year due to the closure of Kanagawa Prefectural Civic Hall for reconstruction. This year, in Odawara in December 2025 and in Kamakura in January 2026, we will bring you famous ballet scenes performed by virtuoso performers accompanied by the rich sounds of an orchestra, as well as the delicate tones of classical guitar, to brighten up the New Year’s holiday season. The performer is Mizuka Ueno, a guest principal of the Tokyo Ballet, a leader in the Japanese ballet world. This star dancer, who truly represents Japan and was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2023, will make a long-awaited appearance on the stage of his hometown for the Kamakura performance. Atsuji Yasuo, who served for many years with the prestigious British company Birmingham Royal Ballet and became the first Japanese male to be promoted to principal dancer, relocated to Japan in 2022, expanding his horizons from ballet to musicals. And then there’s Braulio Álvarez, who joined the Tokyo Ballet as its first foreign dancer after a stint with the Hamburg Ballet, where he thrived as a soloist. After leaving the company last year, he has also been active as a choreographer. Three top dancers will transport you to a beautiful dream world with their magnificent performances of famous ballet scenes and guitar
accompaniment, including Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” performed by Ueno and Atsuji, and The Beatles’ romantic masterpiece “Michelle” performed by Ueno and Braulio. In addition, this time we have a guest guitarist from Yokohama, She was the first female conductor to win a top prize at a major international competition, was selected as one of Newsweek Japan’s “100 Most Respected Japanese People in the World,” and has performed with numerous renowned orchestras both in Japan and abroad.Keiko Mitsuhashi conducts the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, a historic professional orchestra that Kanagawa Prefecture is proud of.
