HERALBONY Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture; President and CEO: Takaya Matsuda) and JR East Morioka Branch (Branch: Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture; Executive Officer, Morioka Branch Manager: Takeshi Omori) will be collaborating in Iwate Prefecture, designated as a “Priority Co-Creation Area” by JR East, from September to November 2025. The initiative will feature works that won the JR East Prize at the HERALBONY Art Prize 2025, an international art award sponsored by HERALBONY. The giant art banner, measuring approximately 7.3m wide and 3.3m high, replaces the work previously displayed in the same location. Taking advantage of the station concourse wall, the large-scale banner features artist Rinako Ikuta’s work, “Connected Landscapes.”

At the age of nine, she traveled across Eurasia by train with her family, which had a profound impact on her creative practice. Around 2015, she encountered the technique of drawing with colored pencils on sandpaper in a clinical art class and became fascinated by its rough texture and unique feel. Since then, she has incorporated this technique into her own expression, creating vivid, intuitive colors guided by the rhythm of music and the rising emotions. This work, “Connected Landscapes,” is a collection of ten 6cm x 18cm sandpaper pieces, each of which incorporates the image of a friend or influences from music. I draw when I’m moved by music or when I’m overflowing with emotion. I never imagined that the small pieces of art I drew alone, excited as I was, would end up being seen by so many people. I’m honored and delighted that they’ve been used in such a wonderful way. Thank you. I hope that those who see them are able to feel energized.
