“Middle and High School Student Program: Stepping Beyond Your Own Limits” Held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo
Agency for Cultural Affairs Press Release: September 12, 2025 “Junior and Senior High School Program: Stepping Beyond Your Own…” held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo An eight-session program aimed at junior and senior high school students, offering a variety of experiences in art. Applications accepted from Friday, September 19th to Tuesday, September 30th. The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT, Kitanomaru Park, Chiyoda Ward) is holding a “Middle and High School Student Program” for junior and senior high school students. “When you step outside of
yourself…” will be held over eight sessions from October 2025 to April 2026. Deepen your understanding of art through dialogue with artists whose works are in the museum’s collection and experts in various fields, workshops, and communication with other participants. In the second half of the program, participants will plan their own program to convey the joy of art and introduce it to elementary school students. The program is limited to 20 junior and senior high school students, and participation is free. Applications are accepted from September 19 to 30, 2025, on the museum’s website. For junior and senior high school students who are beginning to consider their future career paths, the experience of coming into contact with art, thinking independently, and expressing oneself in their own words is a valuable experience that fosters self-understanding, a spirit of inquiry, and expressiveness. However, there are still few programs for junior and senior high school students at art museums in Japan, limiting opportunities for participation. The appeal of our museum’s collection is that it provides an overview of the developments in Japanese art from the late 19th century to the present day. By comparing the social context of the time the works were created with the historical events and social changes that junior and senior high school students learn about in school, it can serve as a learning opportunity that connects with their experiences. Through this program, the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) aims to help junior and senior high school students, who represent the future, discover the appeal of art and art museums. It also provides an opportunity to use art as a catalyst to develop perspectives that allow them to consider themselves, others, and contemporary social issues, broadening their possibilities and horizons. ■Event Overview ・Program Name: “Middle and High School Program: Stepping Outside of Your Own Boundaries…” ・Event Dates: Saturday, October 18, 2025, and Saturday, November 29, 2025 December 20th (Sat), Saturday, January 17, 2026, Saturday, February 28, 2026 March 14th (Sat), March 28th (Sat), April 18th (Sat) (10:00-14:00 each day) *Times and content are subject to change Location: The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (Takebashi, Tokyo) 4-2F Collection Gallery and others ・Target/Capacity: 20 junior high and high school students *If there are many applicants, a lottery will be held ・Participation Fee: Free Application Period: Friday, September 19, 2025 – Tuesday, September 30, 2025 Application Method: Access the application form on our website and enter the required information.
