HITOHATA, INC. Press release: September 12, 2025 [Currently on display] Visitors to the “Animated Yokai Exhibition NAGOYA” have finally surpassed 100,000! This is the world’s first immersive digital art museum, where yokai art painted during the Edo and Meiji periods come to life. A commemorative gift will be presented to the 100,000th visitor. The exhibition is currently being held at the Kanayama Minami Building Museum of Art (formerly the Nagoya Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) (Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture) until Tuesday, September 23, 2025 (national holiday). This innovative art and entertainment exhibition allows adults and children alike to enjoy, learn, and experience yokai culture. “Animation of Yokai Exhibition NAGOYA ~Imagination of Yokai~” is a project produced by Ikki Co., Ltd. (CEO: Takeaki Higashiyama). The number of visitors to the exhibition “Japan ~” (currently being held at the Kanayama Minami Building Museum of Art (formerly the Nagoya Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture from Saturday, July 19, 2025 to Tuesday, September 23, 2025 (national holiday)) exceeded 100,000, and a commemorative ceremony was held. (Organized by the Animated Yokai Exhibition Nagoya Executive Committee) The 100,000th visitor was a couple traveling to Nagoya from the Kanto region. They received commemorative gifts, including the Animated Yokai Exhibition official program (official catalog), original printed cookies, a yokai plush toy, and a tote bag. The two visitors shared their impressions, saying, “It was dynamic and I felt like the yokai were really there,” and “The 3D visual space had images projected onto the floor, which created an incredible sense of immersion.” “Yokai Come to Life Exhibition NAGOYA ~Imagination of Japan~” is the world’s first immersive digital art museum, where visitors can immerse themselves in Japan’s proud yokai art, such as “Yaparade Scrolls of One Hundred Demons,” “One Hundred Tales,” “Oni,” “Tengu,” “Kappa,” and “Tsukumogami” (fox spirits), depicted by various artists from the Edo and Meiji periods, using cutting-edge video technology and 3D sculpture. Japanese monsters, born from the rich imagination of ancient Japanese myths and legends, are beloved by people around the world across the ages. Their humorous appearances, depicted in yokai paintings and caricatures, are brought to life dynamically using cutting-edge digital technology, including 3DCG, projection mapping, and holographic screens, while the world of yokai is brought to life through three-dimensional modeling. In addition, with the cooperation of Nishio City Iwase Bunko, Japan’s first antiquarian book museum, and the Shodoshima Yokai Art Museum, we will provide explanations of yokai culture, yokai paintings, caricatures, and yokai art, as well as unravel the culture and history of yokai that are connected to modern pop culture. This summer, get lost in the fascinating world of “YOKAI” and enjoy this new and exciting art and entertainment exhibition where adults and children alike can “enjoy, learn, and experience” yokai culture.
