Kanagawa prefecture Press release: September 19, 2025 To Members of the Press “Kanagawa Re Classics Project in Yokosuka” will be held! Passing on traditional culture from Yokosuka to the next generation The Kanagawa Re-Classics Project is an initiative that utilizes traditional culture associated with Kanagawa Prefecture with new ideas and re-presents it as a cultural art form that lives in the modern era. In fiscal year 2025, the project will focus on various aspects of life on the Miura Peninsula, and will present performances of traditional performing arts that have been passed down in the region in the “maritime city of Yokosuka.”

Hall Performance We will showcase various folk performing arts from the Miura Peninsula that have been passed down through the generations in the region. We will also be inviting the Shiramasu Koya Dance from Chiba Prefecture, which is said to be the roots of the Ameya Dance, for your enjoyment. However, in this case, admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue, so you may not be able to enter. Thank you for your understanding. Workshops (for elementary and junior high school students) We will be holding workshops for elementary and junior high school students where they can experience folk performing arts from the Miura Peninsula, as well as a workshop where they can watch and experience Japanese dance. 【Folk Performing Arts Workshop】 (1) Date and Time November 23, 2025 (Sunday, National Holiday) 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (2) Location Yokosuka City Industrial Exchange Plaza (3rd floor, Bay Square Yokosuka Ichibankan, 3-27 Honmachi, Yokosuka City) Training Room 1 and Training Room 2 (3) Contents ・Chakkirako Workshop Experience Chakkirako gestures and how to swing a fan. ・Kikuna Ameya Dance Workshop Experience the movements of the dance “Shinkawa.” Make a cardboard paddle prop. Learn the meaning of the movements and gestures found in traditional Japanese performing arts through the enjoyment of watching and experiencing Japanese dance. We’ll explain folk performing arts that spread through the sea and fishing, weaving in aspects of life on the Miura Peninsula. Please take this
