(Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Megumi Nishikawa) guided the 25 Miss World Japan 2025 finalists and 2023 Japan representative Maya Negishi to the Honjo Second Factory (Headquarters: Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture), Japan’s largest down comforter processing factory, owned by Showa Nishikawa Feather Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative: Kazunari Hoshino). They participated in a seminar on down and feathers and a factory tour. Showa Nishikawa shares Miss World’s philosophy of “contributing to society through beauty,” and this event is part of its efforts to contribute to creating a sustainable future.

Showa Nishikawa is actively promoting the 12th goal of the SDGs, “Responsible Consumption and Production.” In Tokyo, approximately 1 million futons are incinerated annually, making it the largest source of bulky waste. As we move from a consumer society to a recycling-oriented society, consumer attitudes are changing, with an increasing number of people choosing to reuse rather than throw away. Feathers are a natural resource that can be reused for over 100 years if properly cared for. Taking advantage of these characteristics, we opened Japan’s largest down comforter renovation factory in Honjo City, Saitama Prefecture, in April 2024 to meet the growing demand for renovations. ■Factory Tour and Comments from the Finalists

They got a close-up look at the process, from dismantling the down comforters to meticulously cleaning the feathers. The finalists shared their experiences, saying things like, “I didn’t know down comforters could be recycled,” and “It gave me a renewed awareness of the challenges facing the international community, including environmental issues.” It was a truly fulfilling experience. ＜Showa Nishikawa Down Comforter Renovation＞ The renovation process is as follows: 1. Dismantle the down comforter. 2. Wash, remove dust, and dry the extracted feathers. 3. Add feathers. 4. The duvet is filled with new fabric, and finally, checked for any foreign matter before shipping. During this process, each customer’s down comforter is processed individually under strict individual control to prevent it from being mixed with other customers’ comforters.
