“Autumn Meteorite 2025 Tokyo Birth” Visual Visual The performing arts festival “Autumn Meteorite 2025 Tokyo,” held mainly at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro, will finally open on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. This will be the first time the festival has been held under Artistic Director Toshiki Okada. Over the course of approximately one month, the festival will feature three components: a “performance program” of 14 diverse performing arts works from Japan and abroad; “non-performance programs” such as lectures and workshops; and a “welcome system” (i.e., visitor support) to support both. Through a variety of programs, we will create opportunities to recognize various realities and reexamine the world from a new perspective, making the here and now performing arts expressions from Japan and around the world more familiar, more directly connected to you, and more relatable. In addition, “Welcome Ginga,” located in the plaza in front of Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, will serve as an information center providing same-day ticket information and program flyers, as well as a space for interaction with participants, where they can enjoy workshops and food and drink. In addition, flags, banners, and posters featuring the visual identity of “Autumn Meteorite,” known for leaving a striking impression, will be used to decorate the entire theater, creating a festive atmosphere. A lottery event linked to social media is also planned, in which attendees can participate. It’s finally time for you to experience the “meteorites” that we’ve so painstakingly prepared and that we’ll be introducing over the course of just over a month. It’s finally time for you to encounter the actual performances and artists, who, as I imparted the nuance of a foreign object into the word “meteorite.” It’s finally time for you to experience the atmosphere of this performing arts festival, “Autumn Meteorite,” or in other words, the “meteorite-like” atmosphere. Under the name “Autumn Meteors,” we are organizing a forum for encounters with meteorites that have arrived from outside the current dominant context of Tokyo and the performing arts world. We would be thrilled if you could experience sensations you’ve never experienced before and be surprised by aesthetics you’ve never encountered before. Since 2016, he has continuously written and directed repertory works for German-speaking public theaters, with his works Vacuum Cleaner in 2020 and Donuts in 2022 selected for the Berlinale Festival. In 2022, he received the Outstanding Director Award at the 29th Yomiuri Theater Awards for his direction of Lingering Ghosts and Monsters: Satana/Tsuruga (winner of the 72nd Yomiuri Literature Prize for Drama and Scenario and the 25th Tsuruya Namboku Award) and the opera Yuzuru. As a novelist, he published “The End of the Special Time Allowed to Us” in 2007, which won the 2nd Oe Kenzaburo Prize. A device screen on which improvised text is spun will be projected onto the venue, and the audience will witness the text being written and rewritten in real time. This is a one-day live event in which textual fiction is generated on the spot, transforming the space and disappearing as soon as it ends.
