It is one of Japan’s three most famous pagodas, alongside those of Horyuji Temple in Nara and Daigoji Temple in Kyoto. The pagoda has undergone a major renovation in the Reiwa era, during which its cypress bark roof has been completely replaced for the first time in approximately 70 years. Although the roof has been re-roofed, the temple is still undergoing renovations, so the Amida Buddha statue enshrined inside the pagoda was on special display at Rurikoji Temple, and the two decided to view it.
