Hey!” call, which would look great in a live performance, was inspired by Finger 5’s “Gakuen Tengoku.” I wanted the audience to enjoy the interaction. I think DEDE took that into consideration and expanded on the theme of the lyrics. Techniques favored by pop composers of the 1970s, such as elegant horns, strings, and Motown-esque beats, are sprinkled throughout the song. Listening to the finished version, I felt that the song’s fond layering of past sounds resulted in a
Shibuya-kei-esque style of deconstruction and citation, even though it wasn’t intentional. ＜Aimed＞ The original song is a masterpiece by Linda Yamamoto, and I aimed to explore how the arrogant character of the Showa era would sound in the Reiwa era. The track was created by Maeshima Soshi. While retaining the essence of pop music, the strong beat creates a club-like finish that works on the dance floor. The energetic yet sophisticated arrangement retains the signature “Showa era pop music” feel with its strongly distorted strings and horns, while also providing a new listening experience. I think it’s a song that is typical of DATE WARS, who reinterpret classics with a modern sensibility. DE DE MOUSE arranged Monsieur Kamayatsu’s popular song. The vocals, with their slightly conversational tone, bring out the voice actor’s individuality and I felt they were a good match for DATE WARS. The lyrics, which preach the virtues of hobbyists, saying “You have to be passionate about something,” perfectly link with the worldview of this project, which unravels musical legacy. In fact, there are parts that quote the riff from The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction,” a playful twist worth exploring. The French
pop-inspired arrangement creates a refined groove, and the mix with subdued high frequencies creates a dreamy texture. I often prefer the arrangements of videos of people singing with live music in the background on variety shows and music shows from the 70s to the arrangements recorded on records, so I kept that in mind and paid particular attention to the horn section, string section, and simple guitar solo. For the lyrics, I chose words that evoke the school life of idol songs from the late 70s to early 80s, so I think the song is quite well-rounded, including the melody! I personally think this song is still underrated, it’s an incredible piece, like an out-of-place artifact, so when I was asked if I was going to cover it, I was shocked. The original song was performed by Tower of Power, so the arrangement is quite American and has a strong blues feel, and the lyrics are set in Paris, so I created the song with the image of a Paul Mauriat arrangement of the original song to give it a more ennui-filled, French feel.
