A “Costume Parade” through the Maze Town: Japan’s Halloween “Inoko Festival” Returns! “Inoko” is a traditional Tonosho Honmachi custom held around October of the lunar calendar. Children visit their neighbors singing songs to pray for good fortune, and those who sing for them give them sweets and other gifts in thanks. It could be considered a Japanese version of Halloween. We plan to hold a parade that incorporates elements of the “Inoko” custom, which was once held in the Meiro-no-Machi area to pray for bountiful harvests, good health, and safety for the home. Image
