Miraiya Bookstores Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture; President and CEO: Masataka Hirakawa) has completely abolished shrink-wrap (plastic packaging) for children’s books at all 205 Miraiya Bookstores nationwide, effective October 1, 2025. Until now, we have shrink-wrapped books to prevent damage and theft. However, we have decided to reconsider this approach because we believe that the experience of children picking up a book, turning the pages, and discovering a book that is just for them is truly important. Children carefully choose books within their limited pocket money, turning the pages with their own hands to find one that they “want to read.” These moments and experiences are irreplaceable encounters with reading, and are precious moments that contribute to each child’s growth.
