■Number Special Edition Comments from Editor in Charge, Kosuke Nishiki The Hanshin Tigers dominated the league this season, winning more than 10 games ahead of the next-place team. Another bright spot was the fact that their main batter, Teruaki Sato, won the home run title for the first time (since Randy Bass in 1986), and we expect he’ll continue to wreak havoc in the Climax Series Final Stage, which is just about two weeks away. In preparing this issue, I was reminded once again of the incredible tactics of manager Koji Fujikawa, who managed the players’ condition with an eye toward the season, and how truly mature the players were (for more details, please read the behind-the-scenes documentary on the seven-game losing streak in the interleague games). As someone who used to go to Koshien and cheer on the team back in the dark days when they were known as the “useless tigers,” it feels like a different era, but after their second championship in the last three years, I’m suddenly looking forward to the arrival of a golden age. We hope that all Hanshin fans will look back on the brilliance of their players this season through this magazine and once again get drunk on the sweet taste of victory.
