YUGEN Gallery FUKUOKA (4F Stage 1 Nishidori, 2-1-4 Daimyo, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture) will be holding Tsukue Akimoto’s solo exhibition, “Art Room Ghost,” from Saturday, November 15, 2025. Akimoto Tsukue won the Hobonichi Itoi Shimbun’s “2nd Hobonichi Manga Award” in 2012 and began his career as a manga artist and illustrator. He gained recognition as an artist after competing at the art fair “UNKNOWN ASIA” (2017), and has since been creating two-dimensional and semi-three-dimensional works that combine painting and collage. His exotic yet unique worldview has garnered popularity, leading to vigorous solo exhibitions not only in Japan but also in Seoul, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Taipei, and other cities. He has also been invited to numerous art fairs overseas. In this exhibition, Akimoto, an artist, returns to the arts and crafts that are the roots of his creativity, attempting a new approach using familiar materials as clues. “My friends had graduated, my teachers had retired, and the school had closed, but I continued to create art alone in the art room at my elementary school,” says Akimoto Tsune. “Art Room Ghosts” are said to be manifestations not of loneliness or anxiety, but of the pure joy of creating. This is Akimoto’s first solo exhibition at YUGEN Gallery in two years, and his first in Kyushu.
