Of all the picture books I’ve illustrated so far, “Carrot Jin” is the one I created with the greatest awareness of the joy of reading aloud. The 7-5 rhythm makes the reader happy, and the children listening also enjoy it… a fun and peaceful scene of reading aloud… I, a single man, imagined this scene in my head and drew “Carrot Jin” with a half-smile. One grand prize was selected in each of two categories: “Children and Teachers Choose! Picture Books to Read Aloud” and “Picture Book Lovers Choose! Picture Books to Read Aloud.” In the “Children and Teachers” category, organizers presented 20 picture books to approximately 2,000 childcare facilities nationwide, including nurseries, kindergartens, and certified childcare centers, which submitted entries.
