Practice your language skills in the “holy land of manga, anime, and games.” Supporting international exchange through multiple languages The Kyoto International Manga and Anime Fair (Kyomaf) is one of Kyoto’s important international exchange events, attracting many fans from Japan and abroad. Using the language skills they developed in the classroom, our students were responsible for providing guidance and direction to international visitors, assisting with interpreting booth information, and responding to inquiries about the event in multiple languages. This was a practical learning opportunity for students, allowing them to step outside the classroom and interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds in a real-world setting. Students acquired the flexible response skills and communication skills to overcome cultural differences required at international events.

interpreter, so I was a little nervous, but I was surprised to find that I was able to communicate in simpler English than I expected. This successful experience boosted my confidence and greatly increased my motivation to study.” “I wasn’t confident, but I was able to actively interact with visitors from overseas. I discovered the joy of taking on a challenge and reaffirmed my purpose in learning a language. It was a very fulfilling two days.” Our university will continue to actively provide opportunities for students to put the knowledge and skills they acquire on campus into practice in the local community, contributing to their growth and to the international and local communities.
