ABEMA, the new television of the future, will broadcast “Popteen vs egg MODELS CRUSH,” a model battle show between teen fashion magazines “Popteen” and “egg” for the cover and pages of a collaborative magazine, starting at 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 28, 2025. This program commemorates the collaboration between “Popteen” and “egg,” longtime teen culture publications, to publish a one-off collaborative magazine. Models will compete for a spot on the cover and pages of the collaborative magazine. The battle will feature 20 current Popteen and egg models, as well as the winners of the Popteen & egg Joint Exclusive Model Audition, a joint audition held by the two magazines to discover the next teen generation’s star model. Popteen and egg were once the driving forces behind gyaru culture in the Heisei era and were the bibles of teenage life. These rival magazines, which went on hiatus with the advent of the social media era, are teaming up for the first time in history to bring back teen idols. The program’s first MCs will be former Popteen top model and now successful talent Nicole Fujita, and Yuchami, a charismatic Gen Z icon who has garnered overwhelming support from young people as the symbol of egg. Both will also serve as judges, offering genuine advice, sometimes kind and sometimes strict, to current models and audition winners, supporting their growth. Regarding the model battle, Fujita commented, “The contrast between egg and Popteen makes the difference in the magazine’s color very clear!” and “Ten years ago, there weren’t any battle projects, so I wanted to try one and see what would come out of it.” Yuchami commented, “I was surprised that this dream gal showdown between egg and Popteen, which had never crossed paths before, would actually happen.” She also commented, “Even though they’re both gals, the differences between egg and Popteen are very clear, so I hope you’ll enjoy those differences as well.” Each commenter spoke about the highlights of the show. You start off by pointing and working on small projects, and then as readers and the editorial department evaluate your work, the number of pages, the size of the cuts, and other requirements change, which is very rewarding. –Do you have any memories or experiences of seriously taking on a battle?
