“Bijutsuten Navi,” an art information website run by the Yomiuri Shimbun, and the Seikado Bunko Art Museum in Marunouchi, Tokyo (Seikado @ Marunouchi) will begin selling original merchandise jointly developed for the exhibition “Seikado’s Important Cultural Properties, National Treasures, and Future National Treasures,” which opens at the museum on Saturday, October 4th. This is the second merchandise collaboration for a special exhibition, following the exhibition “Introduction to Painting: Understanding the Mysteries of Gods, Buddhas, and People.” [Dates: Saturday, October 4, 2025 – Sunday, December 21, 2025] The “Seikado’s Important Cultural Properties, National Treasures, and Future National Treasures” exhibition, held in conjunction with the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, will showcase three national treasures, 17 important cultural properties, and 10 important art objects from the museum’s collection, as well as over 20 works exhibited at expositions from the early 20th century. A gigantic, two-meter-tall painting by Kikuchi Yosai, which the museum has recommended as a future national treasure, will also be on display in Marunouchi for the first time. We have developed two original merchandise items: a blanket and a ticket file, centered around Kikuchi Yosai’s gigantic painting. In addition, in honor of the national treasures on display at this exhibition, we are also offering original drip coffee, allowing you to savor the beauty of the brushwork of the Seikado collection’s Oriental paintings with both your eyes and your palate. The products will be available for purchase at the Seikado Bunko Art Museum’s museum shop from the opening on October 4th. Kikuchi Yosai’s gigantic 2×1.5m painting is now available as merchandise! ・Kikuchi Yosai “Portrait of Empress Lü and Lady Qi” / “Portrait of Feng Zhaoyi and Dang Yi Bear” life-size blankets: ¥33,000 each (tax included) Seikado @ Marunouchi has recommended two gigantic 2 x 1.5 meter hanging scrolls by Kikuchi Yosai as future national treasures. These two have been made into blankets, each roughly the same size. The artworks are printed in high resolution on the luxurious, soft-to-the-touch blankets. These exceptional pieces allow you to experience up close the overwhelming scale of the artworks, as well as Kikuchi Yosai’s precise depiction and vivid use of color. In particular, the “Painting of Empress Lü and Consort Qi” depicts the cold, resentful expression of Empress Lü, the empress of Emperor Gaozu of the Han dynasty, and the tragic and cruel scene that befalls Consort Qi, the object of his vengeance. The near-life-size
representation makes the horror all the more compelling. While this blanket is perfect for warm winters, the design also evokes a chilling chill.
