(Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toru Kamura) held a special preview screening (hereinafter referred to as the “Preview”) of its latest film, “You Are Beyond the Summit,” starring Sayuri Yoshinaga, the brand ambassador for Park Wellstate, a service residence for seniors, on Sunday, October 12, 2025. This preview screening was open to Park Wellstate residents and those interested in the film, and approximately 500 people attended. Star Sayuri Yoshinaga and director Junji Sakamoto appeared at the preview screening to talk about the thoughts they put into the film and memorable anecdotes from the time of filming. Yoshinaga, who plays Junko Tabei, one of Japan’s leading female mountain climbers, carefully reflected on the struggles she faced in portraying a real-life character and her thoughts on the role, and shared behind-the-scenes stories from filming with director Sakamoto, with whom she teamed up for the first time in 13 years. In addition, a raffle was held where attendees could win special prizes. Audiences shared their thoughts, saying things like, “The film gave me the courage and energy to try new things,” and “I want to continue to take on challenges in a positive way in my future life.” Additionally, participating residents commented, “Through Park Wellstate’s diverse events and club activities, I want to enjoy a lifestyle where I can take on new challenges in my own way,” and we realize that our efforts are helping seniors live vibrant lives. –Could you tell us about the appeal of Junko Tabei, the model for this film and the first woman to summit Mount Everest, based on your experience of actually meeting her? I met Tabei on a radio program in 2012 and became a fan, drawn to her bright and positive personality. I was inspired by her story about having pierced ears, and I wanted to get them pierced myself someday. This role inspired me to actually get my ears pierced, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to wear Tabei’s earrings while performing the role. (Yoshinaga) — Director Sakamoto, teaming up with Yoshinaga for the second time in 13 years. How did it feel to reunite with her? Yoshinaga took on the role with a fearless attitude. Even in the mountain-climbing scenes, she requested to climb from the bottom herself, and boldly took on the challenge. She approached piercing without hesitation, and I was once again impressed by her attitude. (Sakamoto) –This film features an all-star cast, including Koichi Sato as the husband, Masaaki, and Yuki Amami as Etsuko Kitayama, Junko’s ally and partner in climbing Everest. How was it working with Sato and Amami? Sato-san and I played a married couple who worked well together, and I was able to rely on them with confidence. Amami-san and I had a lot of fun together, having meals together and exchanging emails. We were able to work together as close friends in the play, and I’m truly grateful for her thoughtful consideration. (Yoshinaga) –This film features many mountain climbing scenes. Did you do anything to prepare for the shoot? I went to Chausu-dake, where Tabei made his first climb, and Hiwada-san, where many climbers come to train, and climbed the mountain with Tabei in mind. (Yoshinaga) In preparation for filming at Mount Fuji, I tried climbing it to prevent altitude sickness, doing 400 squats every day before the shoot. Just like climbing a real mountain, I prepared myself physically and mentally to face the mountain.
