The new ambassadors include YASS, winner of the “2025 FINAL” hip-hop competition, and Ryu, a young and talented dancer who joined the anime song and dance team REAL AKIBA BOYZ as a first-year high school student. With the participation of four ambassadors who transcend genre boundaries, the dance festival will be enjoyable for a wider audience than ever before. The finale, “DANCE WITH music,” will feature performers and audience members dancing together to a live band performance. ■New “BREAKING AREA” Launches, Featuring Breaking, a Dance Movement That’s Revitalizing the Dance Scene Breaking has gained a huge fan base in Japan since being included as an Olympic sport at the Paris Olympics. Its acrobatic elements have become widely adopted as a way to broaden the scope of dance expression, revitalizing the dance scene. In addition to the hugely popular “BATTLE PARK” program, where improvisational battles always draw large audiences, this year we will be introducing a new “BREAKING AREA” in the area formerly home to the breaking battles at “B BOY PARK,” a venue that played an important role in the history of Japanese street dance. This will be a place to pay tribute to the dancers who came before, and a place where anyone, regardless of experience, can experience and enjoy breaking. ■Strongly supporting the next generation of dancers For young people, street dance also serves as a platform for community and character development. SSDW attracts many dancers, from kids to college students, who will lead the next generation of dancers in the scene. This year, we’ll be holding the “SSDW CONTEST,” a high school team competition, again with the aim of nurturing and discovering new talent. In addition, ahead of SSDW, we’ll be holding the “NEXT BREAKING ~WORKSHOP & TALK~” event for those 18 and under on Saturday, November 15th at VAW Eiko High School in Shibuya Ward. With workshops by GOOD FOOT, a leader in the breaking scene, and talks by top active breaking dancers, we support street dance and breaking as a platform for self-expression for the next generation and a place where diversity is respected. ■Spreading street dance that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, nationalities, and disabilities! SSDW believes that street dance should be enjoyable by anyone, professional or amateur, regardless of age, nationality, or disability. The “RAINBOW STAGE” stage program will feature performances by 16 diverse dance teams and three professional teams, including Shibuya-based D-LEAGUE champions CyberAgent Legit. In addition, in honor of the Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics this year, an “Inclusive Showcase” will feature
performances by young deaf dancers. The “CHILL OUT SPACE” area, where you can enjoy dance, music, and art, will feature beginner workshops and photo spots. ■Event overview Date: Saturday, November 22, 2025 (Reiwa 7) Venue: Yoyogi Park Organizers: Arts Council Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, Shibuya StreetDance Week Executive Committee (Shibuya Ward Merchants Association, Shibuya Dogenzaka Shopping District Promotion Association, Shibuya Future Design General Incorporated Association, Tokyu Corporation, Parco Co., Ltd.)
