This event, first held in 2012, offers junior and senior high school students a high-quality cultural experience at Tokyu Theatre Orb, which inherits the cultural DNA cultivated by the Tokyu Group and is capable of producing performances on a Broadway level. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the event, with the aim of creating high-quality cultural experiences that enrich the spiritual growth of young people who will lead the future.

The ninth program, held in 2024, featured a musical adaptation of the hit Japanese film “Sister Act.” ■Tokyu’s DNA in Shibuya Culture The Tokyu Group’s foundation for Shibuya culture dates back to the opening of Tokyu Kaikan (later the West Building of Tokyu Department Store Toyoko Department Store) in 1954 (Showa 29). The aim was to provide residents along the line with cultural entertainment in Shibuya comparable to that of Ginza and Nihonbashi, which were known as the busiest shopping districts in Japan at the time.

It hosted a wide range of performances, from kabuki, rakugo, and shinpa theater to concerts by international rock bands, and was beloved as a “versatile theater.” Subsequently, in 1956 (Showa 31), the eight-story complex, the Tokyu Bunka Kaikan, opened at the east exit of Shibuya Station. Shibuya Hikarie now stands on the site of the former building. As a forerunner of today’s cinema complexes, it boasted four cinemas of various sizes equipped with cutting-edge sound equipment, as well as the Goto Planetarium on the rooftop, Japan’s first Fuller Dome, and attracted much attention as a “hall of lifestyle, culture and entertainment” symbolizing post-war
reconstruction. Incidentally, the “spherical” design of Tokyu Theatre Orb was inspired by the dome of the Goto Planetarium.
