In addition, the memorial event to be held on November 14th will feature a video concert, video messages from singers associated with Shimakura, fan requests, and unreleased tracks not included on this album, such as “Kono Hashi Watatte Itsuta Hito (Recorded in 1957)” and “No Na ni Aise wo (No Matter How Much I Love You) (Recorded in 1966).” Also today, Chiyoko Shimakura’s official YouTube channel released 15 of her signature songs from live performance footage. Chiyoko Shimakura won the Columbia National Song Competition in 1954 and joined Columbia. She made her recording debut the following March with “Konoyo no Hana” (Flowers of This World). However, she had recorded many songs prior to recording “Konoyo no Hana.” While sorting through her data, it was discovered that Shimakura’s first recording for Columbia was “Shanko Hanauta” (Shanko Hanauta) on November 4, 1954 (released in April 1955). Her final recording was “Karatachi no Kojiki” (Karatachi no Kojiki), recorded at home on November 5, 2013, three days before her death, and released as her final single the following month.
