The Chain Museum Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Masamichi Toyama; hereinafter “The Chain Museum”) has begun implementing the ticket sales system of
“ArtSticker,” an art communication platform operated by the company, for “BENTEN 2 Art Night Kabukicho,” a roaming all-night art event to be held for three days starting on Saturday, November 1, 2025. Following last year’s “BENTEN 2024,” which garnered attention both domestically and internationally, this event, themed “rewilding the city,” is an attempt to transform the entire neighborhood of Kabukicho by a diverse range of artists. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here About “BENTEN 2 Art Night Kabukicho” BENTEN 2024, the traveling art event that first took place in 2024 and attracted attention both domestically and internationally, will be held as “BENTEN 2 This year, the event will be held again in Kabukicho as “Art Night Kabukicho.” “BENTEN 2024” was an initiative that showcased diverse artistic expression by artists from Japan and abroad, using the entire district as a stage. Kabukicho has been a hub for avant-garde artists since the postwar reconstruction period, and continues to nurture a unique culture as Japan’s largest entertainment district. Against this backdrop of history and energy,
genre-transcending expression blended into the city over three nights, visualizing a new art ecosystem. This year’s theme is “Rewilding the City.” As urbanization progresses and everything becomes controlled and institutionalized, how can original creative impulses and free expression survive and evolve? In the chaotic city of Kabukicho, we will create a space where art can once again reclaim its “wildness” and open up new possibilities. Continuing from last year, we will further expand our scope by utilizing a variety of unique spaces, including the Ojo Building, Shinjuku Kabukicho Noh Stage, Decameron, WHITEHOUSE, and Tokyo Desert. Artists will create their works in dialogue with the city’s spaces, and viewers will actively walk the streets and engage with art, reexamining the relationship between the city and art through this experience. Theme Rewilding the City Tokyo’s massive, once-in-a-century redevelopment has strengthened order through dramatic transformations, while eliminating biodiversity and “urban wildness.” However, Kabukicho, the “nightlife district,” is an anomaly. Alongside the redevelopment, various “inconveniences” have become apparent, including the problem of “toyota-yoko” (shopping alleys), streetwalkers, an explosive increase in rats, and
unscrupulous hosts. Kabukicho is perhaps the only area in Tokyo that has been “rewilded” through redevelopment. While various tragedies have been reported, this area has also constantly reproduced gaps in the system, from the postwar black market to underground culture and the cat-and-mouse game of maintaining public order through the elimination of violence. Its bottomless destructive impulse and openness, which has grown frenzied while accepting capital, give it a rare identity in Tokyo’s increasingly homogenous city, and ironically, it has become one of the busiest areas. I would like to examine the history and present of “wildness” through the many BENTEN venues that, coincidentally, were born in tandem with redevelopment. *This theme is a quote from a conversation with urban sociologist Nozomi Senba.
