Last year’s event Hitachi Seaside Park will be hosting the Seaside Pottery Festival on Saturday, October 18th and Sunday, October 19th. This event, first held last year, aims to widely promote the appeal of Kasama ware, a traditional craft of Ibaraki Prefecture, and pottery culture. This year’s second event will be held in the Miharashi area, where the kochia trees are ablaze with autumn colors, creating an autumnal event where you can enjoy both flowers and culture. The venue will offer a variety of activities, including a casual pottery experience, a tea-making class using Kasama ware pottery, and pottery sales. Enjoy a moment of autumn culture along with flowers and gourmet food. It is said that the origins of Kasama ware date back to when Kuno Han’emon learned from Choemon, a potter from Shigaraki, also famous for its pottery, and built a kiln in Kasama. Another attraction of Kasama ware is that there are no set rules for manufacturing processes, techniques, colors, shapes, etc., and it has a free style that is not bound by genre. The unique pottery produced by the potters who gather in Kasama has been loved by many people, both in the past and now. Experience, demonstrations, and sales – a comprehensive event! This year, the venue has changed and the event will be held at Miharashi no Sato, which retains its traditional charm.
