Japan-Croatia Association (General Incorporated Association) Press release: October 19, 2025 To Members of the Press The 4th Croatian Film Festival will be held in Asagaya, Tokyo in November! – 14 days connecting Japan and Croatia through film – A special two weeks to experience the charm of Croatian films with a cultural exchange theme As part of the Japan-Croatia Film Festival 2025, a film event themed around cultural exchange between Japan and Croatia, the 4th Croatian Film Festival will be held in Asagaya, Tokyo in November 2025. This film festival is organized by the Japan-Croatia Society, with the support of the Croatian Embassy, and with the cooperation of Morc Asagaya and Tenjin Karakusa. Furthermore, the “3rd Japanese Film Festival” is scheduled to be held in Zagreb, Croatia in December, and it is expected that exchanges between the two countries through film culture will further deepen. ◆ A diverse lineup – from local hits to international film festival nominees Croatian films are characterized by their unique humor and sharp perspective on society, and in recent years have received high praise at film festivals across Europe. Special Exhibition: Experience Croatia Throughout During the film festival, Cafe Tenjin Karakusa will host a special exhibition where you can experience Croatian culture with all five senses. A highlight of the exhibition is the rare collection exhibit that Disney fans must see. In 1960, Biserka, a company based in Zagreb, Croatia, obtained a Disney license, opening the first Disney toy factory outside the United States. The company is also known for creating special designs created by Walt Disney himself for the company, resulting in unique designs like Mickey Mouse wearing pants and Goofy dressed as a cowboy. Bisserka subsequently closed its doors in 1992, but Toni Politeo, who lived in Croatia at the time, purchased the inventory that had been lying dormant in the warehouse and carefully preserved it for approximately 30 years. This
collection, which has been preserved for approximately 30 years, is a valuable exhibit that tells the untold history of Croatia and Disney. In addition, for food lovers, we will be selling Croatian truffle products, as well as Croatian goods, gourmet food, and a photo exhibition. Along with the film, we will be providing a space where you can enjoy Croatian culture, history, and cuisine all at once. ◆ Message from the Organizer “Through this film festival, we hope to convey the charm of Croatia to the people of Japan.” We hope this will be an opportunity for you to feel deeply through the film.
