“Top 100 Manga from the Tokiwa-so Era: A Collection That Changed with the Times” Logo This exhibition looks back on the era and works of “100 Manga from the Tokiwa-so Era” (hereinafter “100 Selections”), an initiative to introduce “100 titles that will be read forever” selected by a selection committee from Japanese manga works published during the 30 years from 1952 to 1982, when “Tokiwa-so” existed. The exhibition will feature reproductions of some of the original artwork from the “Top 100” works, with commentary from the two guests, including Selection Committee Chair Machiko Satonaka and Selection Committee Member Mitsuru Sugaya. The exhibition will also feature a section showcasing the works of the nine manga artists who served on the selection committee, as well as a section showcasing the comics from the “Top 100” works with commentary from reviewers from Japan and abroad. All text will be in both Japanese and English, making it enjoyable for international visitors as well. Through this exhibition, we aim to allow visitors to experience the foundations of Japanese manga culture, which has continued from the days of “Tokiwa-so” to the present day and has spread throughout the world. In addition, during the exhibition period, satellite exhibitions will be held at the Tokiwa-so Manga Museum Salon and various locations in Ikebukuro. In particular, we aim to highlight not only works that have already achieved high acclaim, but also “manga that has been with the times” that have been consumed as the times have changed and are no longer talked about much these days.
