Be sure to check them out when you’re in Shibuya! ■What is the anime “Funeral of Freiren”? “Funeral of Freiren” is a manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, currently serialized in “Weekly Shonen Sunday” (Shogakukan). Set in the world “after” the Demon King was defeated by a hero and his party, the story follows the journey of Freiren, a magician who has lived for over a thousand years and who defeated the Demon King alongside the hero, and the new people she meets. The story, woven together by characters, features heart-wrenching drama and dialogue, magic and sword battles, and hilarious humor, all set in a unique timeline “after the Demon King’s defeat,” and has won many readers. He has won numerous manga awards, including the Grand Prize at the 2021 Manga Awards, the New Artist Award at the 25th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, the 69th (2023) Shogakukan Manga Award, and the Boys’ Category at the 48th Kodansha Manga Awards.
