Launched in 2018, the Fukuchiyama Junior Chamber of Commerce (JCFU) later added Fukuchiyama City and Kyoto Prefecture to its membership, making it a staple cultural event that brightens up Fukuchiyama’s autumn season. Held on Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th, 2024, approximately 3,900 people attended over the two days. At the 29th Hometown Event Grand Prize (2024) sponsored by the Regional Revitalization Center, a general incorporated foundation, “Fukuchiyama Il Mirai to,” organized in 2023 by the executive committee including Kyoto Prefecture, Fukuchiyama City, and the Fukuchiyama Junior Chamber, won the Grand Prize, Prime Minister’s Award. This is the first time that an event in Kyoto Prefecture has won the Grand Prize. Ishigaki Projection Mapping | October 25th and 26th Tadashi Mitani, CEO of PixelEngine Ltd., a company active in urban projection mapping, will be performing a stone wall projection mapping at the foot of Fukuchiyama Castle. This approximately 30-minute cycle of video and music collaboration is a light art piece that can only be seen at night. ○Tadashi Mitani [Profile] Graduated from the Department of Design Engineering at Kyoto Institute of Technology. A highlight this year is the first-ever projection mapping onto the stone walls near the Nori River, which flows at the foot of Fukuchiyama Castle! Also, the hugely popular haunted house will be updated this year with a new Oni Haunted House, performed by Fukuchiyama YEG. The entire Fukuchiyama Castle will be used for a Castle Horror Night, and the Halloween event will be packed with food and play booths! (Reference) About Fukuchiyama Castle This castle was built around 1579 (Tensho 7) by Akechi Mitsuhide, who pacified Tamba. It was abandoned in the early Meiji period, but in 1986 (Showa 61), thanks to the enthusiastic efforts of the Fukuchiyama citizens in the One Tile Campaign, the three-story, four-story castle tower was restored and remains standing to this day. In 2017 (Heisei 29), it was selected as one of the “Top 100 Castles of Japan,” and in November 2018, it was the site of the Ryuo Championship, the highest level shogi (Japanese chess) title match. In 2019 (Reiwa 1), the castle tower was opened to the public for an entire day, a first in Japan, and events such as “Lord of the Castle for a Day” and “Modern Tea Ceremony” were held. Furthermore, from 2020 (Reiwa 2) to 2023 (Reiwa 5), Fukuchiyama Junior Chamber of Commerce and others implemented art events that combined large-scale light art with projection mapping and sound to illuminate Fukuchiyama Castle. Furthermore, in November 2022, the fourth game of the seven-game Ryuo Championship, the highest title match in shogi, was held at Fukuchiyama Castle, with Ryuo Sota Fujii playing against 8th-dan Akito Hirose.
