He served as assistant director on “Pom Poko” and “Whisper of the Heart.” He then moved to Gainax, where he served as assistant director and director on “Neon Genesis Evangelion.” He went on to direct numerous films, including “FLCL” and “Gurren Lagann.” Recommended by Hideaki Anno, he made his directorial debut with “Petite Puri Yucie” in 2002. He left Gainax in 2011 and founded the animation studio Trigger Inc. with Hiroyuki Imaishi and Kazuya Masumoto in August of the same year, becoming its
representative director. In recent years, he has worked as a screenwriter and director on titles such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Elder (Star Wars: Visions), and is also dedicated to studio management and human resource development, with an emphasis on nurturing the next generation of talent. ◆ Course overview “Learn the secrets of team building and video production that reaches the world” Masterpieces such as “Gurren Lagann” and “Cyberpunk: Edge Runners” have thrilled fans around the world. Masahiko Otsuka, who led the production of these titles, will share his secrets to “creative work that reaches the world” through his own experiences. This course thoroughly explains the directing techniques common to hit
productions, how passion is instilled in a work, team building that brings together diverse talents, and even how to communicate with fans. You’ll gain practical knowledge that you can immediately apply in your planning and production work. ◆Curriculum Why 01 TRIGGER’s works have received worldwide acclaim Reactions at Anime Expo, Otakon, and Anime NYC / Viewership figures for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” / Further growth in demand for anime / What I felt at an overseas event 20 years ago / Projects that don’t rely on originality and marketing ⇒ Only we have our own standards for entertainment 02 The Importance of “Passion” in Anime Production Commercial anime is a creative endeavor carried out by large teams. Each individual’s morale directly impacts efficiency and quality. When the staff is excited, the fans are excited, too. Passion is reflected in the artwork. 03 Team building that makes the most of diverse talents How should the main staff be organized? / What I learned from working with Director Takahata / The characteristics and importance of administrative and on-site teams, and organizational building / Approaches to training new
employees…moving away from the “watch and learn” era 04
Communicating with fans and creating works Fan interaction events started during the Gainax era / Fan interaction was a major factor in founding Trigger / Connecting with fans beyond just watching the series 05 Summary The story is important / Art is performance 〈For details, please see the URL below〉

https://prcdn.freetls.fastly.net/release_image/2888/661/2888-661-5fa6282f3702a3ae9d66ee21edf048d7-2900×1052.png ~ Passing on creativity to the next generation ~ Throughout the ages, outstanding creative work has a history of capturing and inspiring people. This history and the ideas of top creators should be passed on to the future. Until now, most of this work has been published and distributed in the form of books or specialized magazines, or collected and stored in libraries, allowing younger generations to see and read it. Even if we have had the opportunity to come across their names and works, there are almost no opportunities to come into contact with their knowledge and thoughts beyond their works, and we believe that losing this would be a great loss for future creative minds. To pass on this knowledge and technology to future generations, we are launching the “Brain Creative Library,” a project to preserve what cannot be conveyed through text or illustrations alone. Based on the voices of creators, we are creating video content suited to the current media environment and distributing it as courses that can be taken anytime, anywhere, into the future. <Click here for a list of courses by approximately 80 top creators.> With the expansion of our lineup, we now offer value “30-Course/20-Course/10-Course Packs,” which allow you to take all courses at once, in addition to individual applications for individual lectures by individual instructors. Lessons will be gradually added in the future, with leading experts giving lectures on a variety of topics in the creative field. ■About Monthly “Brain”
