SUPERNOVA KAWASAKI ART FAIR “VIBE POP” Shota Nakatsugawa is an artist who effortlessly moves between tradition and modernity. Based on the solid skills he gained from studying lacquerware at Tokyo University of the Arts, he has built a unique world of expression by fusing the aesthetic sense of Japanese painting and crafts with pop culture and graffiti. Through solo exhibitions and brand collaborations both in Japan and abroad, his innovative style has garnered support from a wide range of people. He is a notable figure who connects the good old with new sensibilities and paves the way for the future of art. We are pleased to announce the first ever “VIBE POP” art fair, held at Kawasaki SUPERNOVA, featuring an exhibition of 10 new works by Nakatsugawa. This exhibition will introduce works that allow you to experience an innovative and powerful worldview. DJ performances and special exhibition booths featuring soft vinyl and stuffed animal artists will also be held at the venue. (Only on the 22nd.) This special space combines art appreciation with music and shopping, creating an opportunity for visitors to experience art more

Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Crafts, Majoring in Lacquerware in 2009. Fascinated by traditional crafts, he taught himself Japanese painting and succeeded in incorporating graffiti images. Using silkscreen techniques, rare in the Japanese art world, he has produced works that are recognized worldwide. By incorporating contemporary art into Japanese culture, where traditional crafts are being lost, he has created works that are relevant to the modern era and has received tremendous support from all quarters. Recently, he has successfully exhibited at the Ueno Royal Museum, the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and the Nidai Museum of Art, and in October 2019, he also exhibited at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
