Episode #53 of “Higashino Yamazato’s Input,” a BS Yoshimoto program starring Koji Higashino and Ryota Yamazato (Nankai Candies), will air on Sunday, October 26th. (New episodes start on the third and fourth Sundays of each month at 11:00 PM. If there are five weeks in a series, new episodes will air on the fourth and fifth Sundays.) Everyone was excited at Fuji Rock in 1998. “Higashino Yamazato’s Input” is a program in which Higashino, who has many regular programs and also serves as the Director of Public Relations for BS Yoshimoto, and Yamazato, the popular host of the morning information program “DayDay.”, have young people present popular content and unknown, interesting entertainment works, and provide “input.” Yamazato’s fellow member, Daisuke Toyama (Grunge), appears as the presenter in the second part of the show to talk about the legendary band THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT (hereafter, Michelle). While there were some digressions in the last episode, this time there’s plenty of anecdotes to share. First, let’s talk about the legendary 1998 “FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL (hereafter “Fuji Rock”). At the time, festivals themselves were still in the trial and error stage. Apparently, the audience’s enthusiasm was so intense it was like an avalanche, leading to multiple interruptions. We’ll look back on this truly legendary stage, including the moment when vocalist Yusuke Chiba declared, “We’re Japan’s THEE MICHELLE GUN ELEPHANT!” and the episode when guitarist Futoshi Abe strummed his guitar, seemingly ignoring warnings. In 2003, Michelle appeared on the live music program “Music Station” (TV Asahi). The Russian duo t.A.T.u., who were scheduled to appear on the same episode, failed to come out of their dressing room, so they quickly performed two songs. Toyama recounts the situation at the time in detail, discussing the reactions of other artists and idols, and why Michelle ended up performing the second song instead of the other performers. He also shares little-known anecdotes, including how it all started with a comment from one of the members. Furthermore, when he revealed a certain action taken by host Tamori at the end, Higashino burst out in laughter. Yamazato couldn’t hide his surprise, saying, “That Tamo-san!” The conversation also included a wealth of stories, including Michelle and BLANKEY JET CITY, the first Japanese to headline Fuji Rock in 2000; the strange behavior that Toyama noticed in Abe at a live show before the band announced their breakup; and an encounter with Chiba on the street over 20 years ago!
