Because the story is set in a Western-style restaurant, the dishes are ones that everyone has tried at least once, and they become small bridges that connect people in the story. It’s not just a meal. A single plate of rice can give someone a push or melt away misunderstandings. I hope viewers can experience that “taste of opportunity.” Every time you turn a page, everyone will want to face their own challenges once again. I hope this story will become a song of encouragement like that. Yukie Oshima A manga duo who debuted in 2020. They create works in a variety of genres, including comedy, Japanese-style fantasy, and romance. They continue to gain new fans with stories that touch readers’ hearts and captivating illustrations. (X:@yukieoshima) Comment from Kyodo Television Producer Fumi Hashimoto A memo titled “Retirement Restaurant” has been lurking in my project files for over a decade. It was a drama about a group of people who have retired and get together to open a restaurant and enjoy their second lives. Even though they may be “retired,” people in their 60s are still active and full of energy, with many things they want to do. I’ve always wanted to make a drama with a 60-year-old as the main character, conveying the message that life can be challenging and enjoyable at any age. A few years ago, when we began discussing developing an IP with Fan Guild, they took notice of “Retirement Restaurant.” Based on this concept, Oshima Yukiya added a young heroine and characters who are feeling
discouraged by life, creating a story in which the restaurant is revived and the characters also take on new “challenges.” I hope that this content, through comics and drama, will serve as an anthem that encourages people to take on challenges and enjoy life at any age.
