internationally. The event is also strengthening its efforts to connect to the future, such as running a sustainable event with an awareness of the SDGs. The event is attracting more attention than ever with the introduction of the “Gulf Highway Run,” a new event equivalent to a half marathon, and the signing of a partnership agreement with the BMO Vancouver Marathon, Canada’s largest marathon. At the starting ceremony in front of Yokohama Landmark Tower, Hiroshi Yamaguchi, Chairman of the Yokohama Marathon Organizing Committee, declared, “I am now opening the Yokohama Marathon 2025. Everyone, please enjoy!” Yokohama Mayor Takeharu Yamanaka, who also serves as Honorary Chairman of the Organizing Committee and represents the organizers, offered a cheer, saying, “To the nearly 30,000 runners who have come from all over the country, the start time is finally approaching. The entire city of Yokohama is cheering you on. Run with all your might!” Kanagawa Governor Yuji Kuroiwa, Honorary Advisor to the Organizing Committee, then said, “Is everyone excited? Are you giving in to the rain and cold? I used to participate in full marathons until three years ago, so I know better than anyone how great the Yokohama Marathon is. It’s the best marathon! Now that I’m retired, I can’t help but envy you all. You’re all so cool! 6,000 volunteers will also be supporting the runners. Please run to your heart’s content in Yokohama,” he said with a powerful appeal. Guest supporter Shosuke Tanihara called out to the runners, “Rainy Yokohama is a wonderful thing, too. Let’s blow it away with your enthusiasm! Have fun!” As the race started, guests Alex Ramirez (former manager of the Yokohama DeNA BayStars), EXILE MAKIDAI, Hideo Hatta, Tomomi Bito, Yuki Yamazaki, and Sora Shin waved goodbye. Ramirez responded to the cheers of the runners with a “Got it!” pose. Tunk Tunk, the official mascot of GREEN×EXPO 2027, also made an appearance at the start ceremony. After the start, he cheered on the runners by waving and high-fiving them.

It’s a surprise on the day, as you’ll know which water station and what you’ll get to eat. It’s called a “Lucky Lunch” because you’ll feel lucky if you get to eat it! Furthermore, the results of this year’s “Lucky Lunch General Election,” which began last year, were: 1st place went to Yokohama Vanilla’s “Salted Vanilla Financier,” whose CEO is Yuto Takahashi; 2nd place went to Ariake Yokohama Harbor’s “Double Marron”; and 3rd place went to Edosei’s “Oedo’s Little Pig Bun.”

Yokohama-born long-distance runner Sora Shin and actor Tanihara commented, “I have no experience in full marathons, so it was a valuable experience for me to be able to run, even if only briefly, with other full marathoners.” “My favorite things about my hometown are the Minato Mirai Ferris Wheel and the Red Brick Buildings, so running on the road in front of them made me feel like I had the view all to myself, and it was a lot of fun.”

I thought it was wonderful to see people cheering each other on and meeting each other like this.” He also shared the message: “I participate every year, and I think the best part is being able to run in all weather conditions, feeling the fresh air and the city. Everyone, please make an effort every day and try running, even if it’s just a short distance!”

Last year and the year before, he participated with his family, but this year he participated alone. When asked how she felt immediately after finishing the run, she smiled and said, “Because of the rain, I participated alone this time, but I had a great time running on behalf of Rami’s family! It was only 3km, but I feel great.”

I was able to run 42.195km while recharging my energy,” she recalled.

He also enjoyed the scenery of Yokohama, saying, “The cheers and performances from the people along the road and the volunteers all gave me strength. I love the ocean, so it felt great to see Yokohama’s beautiful sea and the stylish, beautiful cityscape.”

I think enjoying the scenery and the act of running is a great way to enjoy a marathon at my age. I hope more people will enjoy running in that way.”

The four members completed the full marathon in relay format, and along the way, they also showcased the charms of the city of Yokohama on the program. First runner Shuta Urano said, “At the starting line, there was an incredible atmosphere of excitement, like, ‘Let’s do this!’ There were announcements and smoke like blank shots coming out, so it felt like a festival and we had a fun start.” He added, “The people along the road were cheering us on loudly, and I really felt that we have a lot of wonderful fans. I think everyone got to see how cool we are,” before handing the microphone to second runner Katsunari Nakagawa. “This time, since we all passed the sash together, I felt like I got to experience the fun of a marathon from a different perspective. I think having friends is really important. If there are people who are thinking of participating alone, I recommend participating with friends,” he recalled, before handing the microphone to third runner Kosuke Honda. “During the meetings, I heard that the third runner is the toughest. It was tough for me, but the runners around me were also getting anxious, so I ran while shouting in the hopes of cheering them up. I hoped to cheer them up even a little,” he said. “The highway is tough, but I don’t often get the chance to run, so the moment we entered the highway was really exciting. It was a surreal experience, and like something out of a manga, it was a great experience in its own way,” he said, recounting the challenging highway section. Anchor Fumiya Sano “My course was about 7km long, so I was able to run without any pressure and have fun! I could see the ocean, and even as I ran I could feel the excitement of the people cheering me on along the road getting stronger and stronger as I got closer to the finish line, so it was fun,” she said, describing her feelings while running. “I wasn’t that tired, so I tried to cheer on all the runners who had worked so hard in the full marathon, and instead tried to cheer them on with as many smiles and shouts as I could, hoping to share some of my energy with them.”
