(C) Koichi Teratani / (C)ANNA FUJIWARA The Kabukicho Shopping District Promotion Association (located in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo) will be holding the “Kabuki Chosai 2025,” an event showcasing the energy and diverse culture of the district, for two days, November 2nd (Sun) and 3rd (Mon, national holiday), 2025, at Cinecity Plaza (1-19 Kabukicho, Shinjuku Ward). On Sunday, November 2nd, contemporary artist Miyoshi Karyu will present a large-scale art performance called “Daishukyu.” A gigantic inflatable sculpture measuring approximately 24 meters in length will appear, and performers will control it from inside for a dynamic performance. In addition, in the evening, we will be holding a “Kabukicho Duet Karaoke Competition.” This will give you the opportunity to sing with Kabukicho residents, who you might not normally have the opportunity to interact with. Monday, November 3rd (national holiday) will be the annually exciting performance and dance event. Featuring energetic performers from a wide variety of genres, including Tokyo QQQ, the acclaimed “lifestyle performance group,” drag queens, freestyle football and basketball, kids’ dancers, and go-go boys.

performance in which five performers each control two gigantic, 24-meter-long inflatable humanoid sculptures, engaging in offensive and defensive combat. Performers also enter the 2.8m sphere that the two giants kick. This work replaces electrical signals from the brain with communication, and through the restrictive conditions of moving giant bodies, questions individual physical boundaries and
subjectivity. Within the giants, individual thoughts are replaced with communal thoughts. The element of football gives movement and stillness a sense of necessity, reexamining the act of acting within the performance. Along with its visual impact, it presents a tranquility that arises from a discrepancy in the scale of time and space, and the fluid subjectivity that exists within human
relationships. The work overlaps with Kabukicho, a place where various people come and go and influence each other, sharply illuminating the universality of the world and the real aspects of humanity. Artist Profile Miyoshi Karyu Artist. Born in 2001. Based in Tokyo, he creates works using performance, painting, video, installation, and more. Interested in the impact clothing has on the body, she creates performances using clothing with enlarged sections and incorporating other people’s bodies into them. Major exhibitions include “Big Soccer” (2025/ Green Hills Midoriyama Futsal Park, Tokyo), “Fat of the Place” (2024/ Token Art Center, Tokyo), and “It’s Connected to the Underground” (2024/ same galery, Tokyo).
