“AMBIENT KYOTO 2023” is the second edition of BRIAN ENO AMBIENT KYOTO, which was well received last year. This year’s event will be held at two venues: the vast former printing factory (1st basement floor of the Kyoto Shimbun Building) and the 93-year-old Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank former welfare center, which was also the venue last year.
In the vast former printing factory on the basement floor of the Kyoto Shimbun Building, Ryuichi Sakamoto’s masterpiece “async” will be transformed into a site-specific, large-scale installation work “async – immersion” completed with video by long-time ally Shiro Takatani and stereophonic sound by ZAK. 2023》 will be exhibited. This work uses a 26.4m wide LED panel that can only be realized at this location.
The Kyoto Chuo Shinkin Bank Former Welfare Center is exhibiting ambient-themed works by Cornelius, Buffalo Daughter, and Seiichi Yamamoto, artists who have continued to create innovative works and have earned worldwide acclaim. Cornelius and Buffalo Daughter are installing existing works as a special production only for this exhibition, and are also showing for the first time “Silhouette,” an ambient piece written by Kyoto-based artist Seiichi Yamamoto, accompanied by video.
All floors of the building will be decorated with ZAK’s stereophonic sound, ambient light, images, fog, and Kan Izumi’s scents that “approach the sense of hearing.” We have created an experiential installation work that opens up a variety of senses and can be enjoyed with the whole body.
While continuing the ambient nature inherited from last year’s Brian Eno, this exhibition will present a “new form of ambient.”
