Toshiba Tec opens next-generation smart store “NEXMART 01 GO” with the concept of “retail store of the future”

Toshiba Tec Corporation (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Hironobu Nishikori, hereinafter referred to as “Toshiba Tec”) is located in Narashino, Chiba Prefecture, as a place to co-create new value with customers and partner companies in the distribution and retail industry. The next-generation smart store “NEXMART 01 GO” will open in the city on December 15, 2023.

“NEXMART 01 GO” is a brick-and-mortar store that stocks delicatessen items, beverages, daily necessities, and more. Based on the concept of a “retail store of the future,” we will gradually install the latest solutions that utilize various digital technologies that Toshiba Tec aims to put into practical use, such as checkout systems, security systems, and personal recommendations, and utilize them for store operations. We will also use it as a place for co-creation to conceptualize and test new solutions and operations with
manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and retailers, and other partner companies.
In the distribution and retail industry, against the backdrop of social issues such as labor shortages, there is an urgent need to promote DX to automate and save labor in store operations. In conjunction with this opening, “NEXMART 01 GO” will introduce an “AI crime prevention system” that detects fraud at self-checkout and prevents losses as the first solution. We plan to introduce various solutions in the future, including a “checkout system using image recognition” that enables smooth product registration at
self-checkout.
Toshiba Tec aims to become a “global top solution partner” and will continue to face social issues, propose solutions to customers, and work to accelerate DX in various industries.

-About “AI crime prevention system”-
This is a solution that can efficiently detect actions that are determined to be fraudulent by analyzing consumer behavior from camera images at the time of checkout and specifying to AI actions that are determined to be fraudulent. It is possible to detect items such as bagging items that have not been scanned, leaving items in the cart at checkout, and leaving the store without checking out, thereby strengthening self-checkout security measures.
